Q. I heard / read that Indian eyes are not suitable for LASER spectacle treatment?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. This is a myth. Any person in world can undergo LASER after detail eye checkup and fitness test.

Q. Why I feel scared to get both eyes treated at the same time?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. Since eye is doing the novel job of giving vision this fear is natural. Since treatment is done at a time on both eyes some may think what happens if it fails. We at out institute follow international norms to do the procedure. It is been proved by USA FDA studies that doing both eyes at the same time is safe, convenient to the patient and giving faster visual recovery. However after one eye treatment I communicate with patients and give them feedback, show them visual results and then proceed with the second eye.

Q. How can Advanced CustomVue treat nearsightedness ( Myopia), farsightedness (Hyperopia), cylindrical number (Astigmatisms) and reading gasses avove 40 years (Persbyopia) ?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. All four vision problems are most often caused by imperfections in the cornea and loss of lens elasticity (Presbyopia). Advanced CustomVue uses the WaveScan WaveFront™ System to measure those distinct imperfections, creating a map of each eye. The WaveScan™ System translates these detailed digital measurements into a set of treatment instructions, which it transmits to the laser. The laser reshapes the cornea to improve vision.

Q. What is the recovery process like?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. Most Advanced CustomVue patients usually see quite well immediately after their procedure and may be able to resume most of their normal daily activities. Although the speed of visual recovery depends on personal healing patterns, most patients notice dramatic visual results within the first few hours following their procedure.

Q. What is the difference between Conventional LASER and Advanced CustomVue?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. Advanced CustomVue is an individualized laser vision correction treatment that is wavefront-guided. With the Advanced CustomVue procedure, nearsighted, farsighted and astigmatic individuals have the potential to achieve a new level of vision.

Advanced CustomVue uses wavefront-guided technology to measure unique imperfections in the eye. The technology then produces a treatment for the eye and the information is transferred to the laser. The doctor then uses that information to fine-tune the procedure thereby providing a new level of precision and accuracy.

Q. What are LASIK and PRK?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. All LASER procedures are done on the cornea to reshape eye in such a way that spectacle number is eliminated or reduced dramatically. PRK (Photorefractive keratectomy) is a surface procedure. Other variations of PRK are LASEK (Lasersubepithelialkeratomileusis) and Epi-LASIK. Surface healing is like deep skin burns. It may heal irregularly, is painful and needs either eye patching or contact lenses for 5-6 days. It also requires prolong treatment. These drawbacks are addressed in LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) as it is deep healing with no pain and predictable results. LASIK is one of the most modern eye procedures done in the world today.

Q. Will I need glasses or contact lenses after the Advanced CustomVue procedure?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. With Advanced CustomVue 98% patients achieved 6/6 (normal, natural vision) and remaining 2 % may get minor number which may not be required to be worn.

Q. Can I wear cosmetic contact lenses after the Advanced CustomVue procedure?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. Yes, you can wear cosmetic contact lenses after LASER treatment.

Q. What is Iris Registration Technology?

Dr Jeevan Ladi. It’s normal for a patient’s pupil to shift positions from the time their eye is measured and the time of treatment. Iris registration technology centers the treatment correctly, independent of changes in the pupil center from measurement to treatment. Few body parts are used as unique identification marks like fingerprints, iris, retina etc.

If you are nearsighted, without your glasses or contact lenses, your world is most likely blurry and fuzzy. Laser vision correction (LVC) can help to make your world clear. At DLEI, we want to ensure you make an informed decision about your vision correction options.

Q. What is laser vision correction?
Ans. Laser vision correction is a simple procedure that uses the VISX Star laser to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism. During the treatment, the laser's cool beam of ultraviolet light removes a small amount of tissue, usually less than the thickness of a human hair. Short pulses of this cool beam laser light change the curvature of the cornea, allowing images to be more sharply focused on the retina. Just as glasses and contacts help you to see clearly, so does laser vision correction. But there are some guidelines: you must be at least 18 years of age, with healthy eyes and stable vision.

Q. Is laser vision correction safe?
Ans. Over 10 million LVC procedures have been performed worldwide in the past 10 years. Data obtained during exhaustive clinical trials shows that all patients experienced a significant improvement in uncorrected vision (vision without glasses or contact lenses) after laser vision correction.

Q. Why do people have LASIK surgery?
Ans. Research has shown that there are four main reasons that people choose to have LASIK. They are:·

  • Life simplification: No longer having to deal with glasses or contacts ·
  • Independence: Freedom from dependence on glasses and/or contacts ·
  • Performance: Ability to perform better in sports-related activities ·
  • Ability to see 24/7 when it counts: Better vision for all occasions (e.g., during sports activities, swimming, evening out etc.)

Q. Do I need an examination first?
Ans. Prior to treatment, you will have a thorough eye examination, called a laser vision consultation, conducted at DLEI to determine whether your eyes are healthy and suitable for LVC. In addition, a detailed video and computer image is taken of your eye that will detail the curvature, shape, overall smoothness and regularity of the cornea.

Q. What can I expect on the day of LVC procedure?
Ans. Shortly after arrival at the surgery centre, anaesthetic drops will be placed in your eyes to numb them. In the laser room, you will be seated in a reclining chair, the surgeon will position your head under the laser. During the surgery, you will be asked to focus on a blinking red light while the laser removes microscopic amounts of tissue from the cornea. The laser will treat your eye for less than one minute and your total time in the laser area will be about 20 minutes. After your laser treatment is completed, drops will be placed on your eye for protection and comfort. While the actual procedure is painless due to the numbing eyedrops, you may experience some slight discomfort during the immediate postoperative period.

Q. How much time will I need to get LVC?
Ans. We recommend you plan to have laser vision correction when you can afford a few days to relax and enjoy the benefits of your new vision. A postoperative visit is required at 24 hours and your eyes may be light-sensitive for a short time. The healing of the eye occurs during this period so we recommend you take a day or two off from work and avoid any strenuous activity.

Q. What kind of vision can I expect with LVC?
Ans. This depends largely on the amount of correction required. Most people require a low to moderate degree of laser vision correction that should result in vision similar to that with glasses or contact lenses. Vision is usually blurry in the first day or two after the LVC procedure. It is expected that most patients should be able to legally drive without correction after about one week.

Q. Is laser vision correction affordable for me?
Ans. The affordability of LVC has never been greater. First, consider the cost of replacing your eyeglass frames and lenses or the repetitive costs of disposable contact lenses. With laser vision correction you can receive the greatest value: clear vision without glasses or contact lenses. Please call Mr. Rahul (Laser Vision Counsellor) for details 9922995549.

Q. What is Monovision?
Ans. Monovision is an attractive option for many patients over the age of 40. You can elect a non-surgical monovision or a surgical option. With non-surgical monovision you wear a contact lens in one eye for distant vision and the use of a near vision contact in the other eye. Usually your dominant eye is fit for distance. It takes some training to get used to the "monovision" technique, but most people can adjust well to it and eventually cease to notice that each eye is responsible for a different part of their vision. If you find that this technique works well for you, this can sometimes be simulated using LASIK surgery.

Q. How Much Does Corrective Eye Surgery Cost?
Ans. Corrective eye surgery has never been more affordable than it is today.
